Believe it or not - We are ALL up by 9 the next morning. Now the way we run girls weekend is each person has to bring a meal (and prepare it for everyone) Darcy has breakfast for Saturday am. She is making pancakes and maple flavored sausage! It was delicious! After breakfast and everyone takes showers we head out of the house.
The weather is absolutely gorgeous, even though it is March. The sun is out. It's 50. Awesome. I take everyone down to Wells beach. The tide is in but we head down onto the beach. The girls decide that the want a picture out on this rock probably ankle deep out in water. They walk on the rocks to get out there - no problem. As I am standing there trying to take the photo - the tide comes out more. Well you had to see everyone trying to make it back in with out taking a dive into the water.
We walk a little way down the beach. The girls our collecting shells and rocks. Darcy finds a shell with a snail still in it. She shows us if you sing this song to the snail - it will come out! and then she sang to the snail for about 5 minutes! Kim was like a little kid - so excited to find shells. As we are getting ready to leave a wave comes up behind Darcy and soaks her shoes and jeans.
We leave there after I tell the girls I will take them someone else they will really like. We pile in the car and head out. I decide to stop at this place on the side of the road with a waterfall - I tell them all photo op! Wonder if they will get sick of hearing that?!? We head out of the car, there is this waterfall. At the base of the waterfall is this guy fly fishing. We take a photo from up above. Kim decides whe is going closer. I tell them that I have the perfect photo - there is a tree going across the top of the fall - if they all sit on it it would be perfect - but they are chickens and wouldn't do it. But we did get a picture of Kim talking to the guy flyfishing. We imagined that this was how the conversation went....
"Wow - nice rod. It's so thin - how do you use it without it breaking? Can I use it?"
Anyway after returning to the house for Darcy to get out of her wet stuff we head to the East Restaurant. It is without the BEST Chinese food I have ever had. We eat (and eat and eat) and still bring back a big bag of leftovers.
Next we head down to Marginal way. (history lesson time) In 1923, the magnificent Marginal Way was given as a gift to the Town of Ogunquit by Josiah Chase of York and is now a paved footpath beginning (or ending) in a corner of Oarweed Cove near the harbor, then running for 1 ¼ miles to the marvelous expanse of Ogunquit Beach. Once called "the margin" because of its patterned development along the rocky edge of the cliff, the origin and preservation of this truly precious piece of natural beauty was not the result of far-sighted conservation planning, but of the dealings of a shrewd businessman and some stubborn, persuasive "locals." This delightful, exhilarating walk meanders by tangled bayberry and bittersweet bushes, gnarled shrubs of fragrant pink and white sea roses, shaded alcoves formed by wind-twisted trees jutting out onto high granite outcroppings, and humbling views of the mighty Atlantic with its varying seasonal moods. Although the bends and inclines along the way are rather gentle, most walkers will choose one of the thirty memorial benches dotting the path to sit and rest, to contemplate and sometimes to paint the panorama of sea, surf and sky which daily unfolds amid noisy protests from the roiling ocean and screeching gulls. After a freak storm damaged the path in 1991, the Committee to Restore the Marginal Way and a capital fund were established to ensure its continued preservation and maintenance. Each year more than 100,000 people take this scenic path along the rugged cliff line, and, while Maine has several similar ocean walkways, Ogunquit's Marginal Way is undoubtedly the most unique, the most popular, the most painted and the most beloved.
As we walked along we took all kinds of photos. I kept getting the girls to climb down on the rocks in search of the perfect photo. I wanted one to go out on the rock with the wave crashing onto it so I could get a 'Little Mermaid' shot - BUT although I got them to do all other kids of shots I couldn't get anyone to do that. But we did get some amazing photos (check them out). We even had other people ask us if we could take there photos!
The sun was starting to set and I still had 1 more place I wanted to bring them. We headed to Nubble LightHouse. We took a few photos but by now it was starting to get cold and windy. We headed back to the house.
Nancy's meal was vegetable lasagna. Yum! After supper we decided to play Kathy's new game....the list of things. Basically, the reader reads a card....Name something you should never say to a cop. Everyone writes down their answer and then you have to guess who said what. I stink at the game because everyone always figured out waht I wrote. One of the most memorable questions was...
Name something you wished you could buy in a vending machine
some of the answers - bread and milk, underwear, rubber gloves, a super deluxe light up dildo
But then the game really took a turn for the crazy side. It became the Beaver game. EVERY question that we asked was answered with "Cute Little Baby Beaver"
Now think about answering the question - What should you never ask your boss" with that answer! We did this for about 2 hours! I don't think I have ever laughed that much in my life~!
Finally, Cindy read Tarot cards. Cindy truly has a gift because she revealed stuff that none of us knew but were true. Tears, laughter, open jaws. Finally at 3 we headed to bed!
